STRESZCZENIE

Higienistki stomatologiczne wspólnie ze środowiskiem lekarzy i lekarzy-dentystów zajmują się kształtowaniem wiedzy prozdrowotnej i profilaktyką w szerokim zakresie. Pojęcie „profilaktyka” obejmuje wszelkie czynności mające na celu zapobieganie chorobom lub ich zahamowanie poprzez wczesne wykrycie i podjęcie działań profilaktycznych i leczniczych. Dane epidemiologiczne są bardzo niepokojące i potwierdzają konieczność wielokierunkowego działania zapobiegającego rozwojowi próchnicy.

SUMMARY

Dental hygienists together with the environment of physicians and dentists are engaged in shaping a health-related knowledge and a prophylaxis in a wide range. The concept of "prophylaxis" includes all actions aimed to prevent or inhibit the disease by early detection, and introduction the preventive and therapeutic activities. The epidemiological data are very disturbing and confirm the need for a multisite action to prevent the development of caries. Laser assisted caries detection allows to identify caries lesions in the early stage and makes prophylaxis and treatment more predictable and successful.
