STRESZCZENIE
Zdrowie jamy ustnej stanowi istotny element ogólnego stanu zdrowia pacjenta, a jego zaburzenia mogą pozostawać w ścisłym związku z chorobami ogólnoustrojowymi.

ABSTRACT
Oral health professionals frequently treat patients affected by various systemic diseases. The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between selected systemic conditions and oral health status, as well as to highlight the role of oral healthcare in the management of chronically ill and terminally ill patients. The study is based on a narrative review of current literature addressing conditions such as diabetes mellitus, cancer, pneumonia, and cardiovascular diseases, and their impact on oral health. Particular attention is given to the specific oral care needs of patients receiving palliative care and those at the end of life. The findings emphasize the significant role of oral health in overall patient well-being and underline the importance of dental hygienists as essential members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, especially in the care of patients with chronic and oncologic diseases.
