ABSTRACT
A child's oral health begins in the prenatal period and requires appropriate preventive care from the first days of life. Early preventive measures play a crucial role in reducing the risk of oral diseases, including early childhood caries. The aim of this article is to present the characteristics of the oral cavity of newborns and infants and to discuss the basic principles of oral health prevention in the first months of life. The paper describes anatomical and physiological differences between the oral cavity of newborns and infants and outlines oral hygiene practices both before and after the eruption of the first teeth. The role of appropriate hygiene accessories, the importance of proper feeding habits, and the impact of parental education on establishing healthy behaviors are also discussed. Particular attention is given to the most common threats to oral health during early infancy and to the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation in preventive dental care. Early prevention and health education constitute the foundation for proper oral development and long-term oral health.
